Peter includes this command to “ Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good” (1st Pet 2:13-14). Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you” (Heb 13:17). The author of Hebrews writes very much the same thing, “ Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God” because “ whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment” since “ the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing” (Rom 13:6). Paul writes in Romans 13:1-2 “ Let every person be subject to the governing authorities.
